Travelling from further afield

There are no direct flights from Asia, Oceania, Africa or the Middle East. Most travellers from these regions connect in Amsterdam, Miami, New York or Panama City. Please note that a connection in the United States requires US entry documents (an ESTA or visa), even if you only change planes there.

Immigration and Visa

Most participants will not require a visa to enter Curaçao. However, entry requirements vary by nationality. We recommend checking the official immigration requirements well in advance of your trip at curacao.com.
All visitors are required to complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI Card) before arrival.

Taxi or Airport Shuttle

The conference venue is approximately 15 minutes' drive from Curaçao International Airport (CUR). Taxi services are available upon arrival, or install the app to pre-book: 24/7 Taxi Curaçao. Some hotels offer an airport shuttle service.

Accommodation

The conference will take place at the Renaissance Wind Creek Curaçao Resort in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Willemstad. Participants can choose from more than 60 hotels and apartments within walking distance, ranging from budget-friendly accommodation to luxury resorts. Special conference rates will be announced in due course.

Climate

June offers warm tropical weather with average daytime temperatures around 30°C (86°F). Conference venues are air-conditioned, while outdoor social activities are generally held during the cooler parts of the day. Light clothing is recommended, together with comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat for excursions.

Getting Around

The conference venue is located in the heart of Willemstad. Most hotels, restaurants, museums and attractions in the city centre are within walking distance. Taxis are readily available, and transportation will be arranged for conference excursions where required. A rental car is not necessary for attending the conference. However, participants wishing to explore the island before or after the conference may find renting a car a convenient option — several international and local rental companies operate from Curaçao International Airport and throughout the island.

Currency

The official currency is the Caribbean Guilder (XCG). US Dollars are widely accepted, and major credit and debit cards can be used in most hotels, restaurants and shops. ATMs are conveniently located near the conference venue and throughout the island.

Health & Safety

Curaçao is regarded as one of the safer destinations in the Caribbean and offers modern healthcare facilities. Emergency services, pharmacies and medical centres are easily accessible. As with any international destination, visitors are encouraged to take normal travel precautions.

Electricity

Curaçao mostly uses 127 volts at 50 Hz with US-style plugs (types A and B), but some hotels and buildings also have 220-volt European-style sockets. Wherever you travel from, a universal travel adapter is always handy. Check the voltage of the socket before you plug in. Most laptop and phone chargers work on any voltage (look for "100-240V" on the label); other devices, such as hair dryers, may only work on one.

Drinking Water

Tap water in Curaçao is produced by desalination and is safe to drink. Bring a refillable bottle to stay hydrated in the heat.

Mobile Phone and Internet

The local mobile networks are Digicel and Flow. Prepaid SIM cards are available at the airport and in shops across the island, and eSIM plans are a convenient alternative. Check your home provider's roaming rates before you travel, as Curaçao is often not included in standard roaming bundles.

Tipping

Many restaurants add a service charge to the bill, so check before adding a tip. Where no service charge is included, a tip of around 10–15% is customary.

Language

The local language is Papiamentu; Dutch is the other official language, and English and Spanish are widely spoken. Locals appreciate a few words of Papiamentu: Bon dia (good morning), Bon tardi (good afternoon),Bon nochi (good evening), Kon ta bai? (how are you?), Danki (thank you) and Ayo (goodbye).

Protecting the Reef

Curaçao's coral reefs are among its greatest treasures. If you plan to swim, snorkel or dive, please use reef-safe sunscreen, do not touch or stand on coral, and take your rubbish with you.

The conference venue is surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and waterfront terraces. Visitors can enjoy local Caribbean cuisine alongside international dining options, all within walking distance of the conference venue.
