Submission Guidelines

We welcome abstract submissions for the 21st Islands of the World Conference, Curaçao, 6–10 June 2027.

Submissions can be made as an individual paper, as an organized panel, or as a roundtable.

General Guidelines

• Abstracts must be 150–250 words and should not include citations or references.
• Write for an international and multidisciplinary audience.
• All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.
• An author may appear on a maximum of two abstracts and may be corresponding author on one abstract only.
• Individual papers must be assigned to the most relevant conference track.
• Abstracts must be submitted through the online submission system; submissions by email will not be accepted.
• Presenting authors of accepted abstracts must register for the conference.
• By submitting, authors agree that their abstract may be published in the conference programme and related materials.

Conference Tracks

Individual papers should be submitted under one of the following tracks:

• Culture, Society, & Community
• Marine and Coastal Ecosystems & Environmental Management
• Health, Equity, & Care
• Politics & Governance
• Technology & Innovation

Organized Panels

Organized panels consist of four papers. The session organizer should upload one Word document containing:

• Session title
• Organizer name and contact details
• Titles and authors of all four papers
• Four abstracts of 150–250 words each

All four abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee. Acceptance of the session depends on the acceptance of the individual papers.

The Scientific Committee may suggest changes to the composition or scheduling of a session.

All presenters must register individually for the conference.

Roundtables

Roundtables consist of a moderated discussion on a shared topic rather than individual paper presentations. The roundtable organizer should upload one Word document containing:

• Roundtable title
• Organizer name and contact details
• Moderator and proposed participants: names, affiliations and confirmation status
• One roundtable description of 150–250 words

The description should outline the topic, its relevance to island research, the main discussion questions and the perspectives represented by the participants. Explain what attendees can expect and how they can contribute to the discussion.

Write an engaging description suitable for publication in the conference programme. The title and participant details do not count towards the word limit. Individual paper abstracts are not required.

Roundtable proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee, which may suggest changes to their composition or scheduling.

All moderators and roundtable contributors must register individually for the conference.

Withdrawal

To withdraw a submitted abstract, please contact the Conference Secretariat.
